What's included in every rental
Free delivery & pickup
We bring bins to your door and collect the empties when you're done — anywhere in our service area, at no extra charge.
Dollies
Flat dollies sized for our bins come with every package, so heavy loads roll instead of being carried.
Sanitized bins
Every bin is commercially washed and sanitized between rentals. Yours arrive clean and ready to pack.
Damage waiver
Normal wear is on us. Scuffs and everyday use are covered — you only pay for lost or deliberately damaged bins.
Eco impact
Reusable bins replace single-use cardboard boxes, cutting moving waste.
Meet the bin: heavy-duty 27-gallon latching totes
Every NJ Moving Bins rental uses the same workhorse: industrial 27-gallon black-and-yellow latching storage totes — the heavy-duty style you'll recognize from Home Depot. These aren't flimsy plastic bins; they're rigid, reusable totes built for move after move.
- 27-gallon capacity — roomy enough for books, kitchen gear, and full closet loads
- Latching lids — snap shut and stay shut in the truck; no tape, ever
- Stackable design — nest together when empty, stack securely when full
- Built to be reused — rigid walls that stand up to movers, elevators, and stairs

How many moving bins do you need? A sizing guide
Picking the right package is mostly about home size — but lifestyle matters too. Here's how to decide.
Studio or dorm (20 bins). A typical studio — bed, small kitchen, closet, bathroom — fits comfortably in 20 bins. Rutgers students moving between off-campus houses in New Brunswick usually land here. If you have a packed storage closet or a serious book collection, consider sizing up.
1–2 bedroom apartment (40 bins). Our most popular package. Forty bins covers a furnished 1–2 bedroom including kitchen, closets, linens, and decor. This is the sweet spot for Jersey City and Hoboken renters, where apartments are dense with stuff but short on staging space.
3+ bedroom home (60 bins). Houses accumulate — garage, basement, kids' rooms, the "we'll sort it later" closet. Sixty bins handles a typical 3-bedroom single-family home in Edison or Princeton, including most garage and basement contents.
Rules of thumb: book lovers and collectors, size up. Minimalists, size down. Home offices with files and equipment usually need 5–10 extra bins — add them at $5/week. And when in doubt, size up: extra bins cost far less than a second trip for forgotten boxes.
Still unsure? Tell us about your place and we'll recommend a package — no upsell, just the right fit.
Bins vs. cardboard: the full cost & waste comparison
Real numbers for a typical 1–2 bedroom NJ move.
| Reusable bin rental | Cardboard boxes | |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | $140/week, all-in | $150–$260 for boxes, tape & wrap |
| Delivery & pickup | Free, both ways | You haul everything yourself |
| Assembly time | Zero — bins arrive ready | Hours of taping and box-building |
| Durability | Rigid, water-resistant, stackable | Weakens when damp; crushes under weight |
| After the move | We pick up the empties | Break down, bundle & recycle your boxes |
| Waste | Near zero — bins are cleaned and reused | A pile of single-use boxes per move |
| Hidden costs | None — waiver covers normal wear | Replacement boxes for crushed ones |
The math surprises most people: renting bins usually costs less than buying decent cardboard, once you count tape, wrap, gas for the supply run, and the value of the hours you'd spend building boxes. Add the durability and the waste savings, and cardboard only wins if you enjoy taping boxes at midnight.
